CLITORIDECTOMY/MUTILATION

Clitoridectomy/Mutilation

Dedicated to all who have already suffered from this mutilation

Clitoridectomy is a form of mutilation performed on young girls.

In some areas the child is told in advance to sit in cold water.
This might numb the area and hopefully reduce bleeding. They are
then restrained with their legs held open.

The mutilation can be carried out by using a tin lid, broken glass,
scissors, a razor blade or any instrument used for cutting.

When infibulations begins, they use stitches or thorns to hold the
two sides of the labia majora together.  They also bound the legs
for up to 40 days.

For healing purposes they use either antiseptic powder or pastes
that contains herbs, eggs, milk, ashes or dung.

If the mutilation is part of an initiation ceremony the child is taken
to a special place to recover.  If your family is very rich, a qualified
doctor will perform the mutilation in a hospital under local or
general anesthetic, [STATUS].

This procedure is a crime to the human body and should not be
allowed in any country.

My prayers go out to all my sisters who have already suffered.
