UNFORGIVING

Unforgiving

When you don’t forgive a person, you think you are
punishing that person.  When you don’t forgive a
person, you think you are protecting yourself.  You
don’t want to be hurt again.  But not forgiving a person
can destroy a marriage, a family, a friendship, a team,
a community, a church, etc.  When you have an unforgiving
spirit, you can inspire wars.  When you have an unforgiving
spirit you can traumatize entire nations.  When you have an
unforgiving spirit, your emotions are jumbled.  An unforgiving
spirit leads to feelings of hostility, anger, resentment, hatred,
bitterness, etc.  When you have an unforgiving spirit, you
tend to want to have revenge against the person who offended
you.  And the more the person suffers, the greater your
pleasure in knowing that.  If you refuse to forgive a fellow-
believer, you cannot expect your relationship with God to be
unaffected.  If you want God to forgive you, you have to forgive
others when asked for forgiveness.
